Easter Around the World - Research Activities Do you want to broaden your pupils’ knowledge of the world while working on their research skills? This resource is really easy to use in your classroom – there are 16 printable worksheets which cover 15 countries and include a blank sheet if there is a specific country you would like included that is not in the selection. Pupils can then undertake their own research (at home or in class) to find out more about the Easter traditions in these countries. Pupils are asked to • find out what Easter is called in the country • draw and colour the country’s flag • write how Easter is celebrated in the country • add a picture (drawn or printed) to illustrate how Easter in celebrated there The countries included are: • Bermuda • Brazil • Bulgaria • France • Germany • Greece • Hungary • Indonesia • Italy • the Netherlands • Norway • Poland • Scotland • Spain • Sweden This is great way for pupils to research other cultures. All the countries have been chosen as they have a special way to celebrate Easter - my favourite is Bermuda with their kites! On completion, pupils could present their findings to the class or they could be displayed for the whole school to see. Pupils would also love to be shown YouTube clips of these celebrations and could even try to recreate some of them… I’d love to hear if any classes make their own kites!

A fantastic board game (think along the lines of Cranium) to celebrate European Day of Languages. Designed to try to appeal to every pupil in the classroom, there are both skill tasks and question cards with pupils being given the opportunity to write and form letters using unknown alphabets, say words in both new and familiar languages and answer general knowledge questions. Instructions: - Pupils play in small groups of 2-6 players. - Place all the question and skill cards face down in the correct place on the board. - Pupils choose a star to start on. - Roll the dice, the pupil with the highest number starts. - Pupils take it in turns to roll the dice and move clockwise around the board. - If a pupil lands on “Q”, another player picks up the “Q” card and asks them the question. If the pupil answers the question correctly they get to keep the card. - If a pupil lands on “S” they pick up the “S” card and complete the skill. If the pupil completes the skill they get to keep the card. - If a pupil lands on the dice they get to roll again. - There is no finish position. The game continues until all the cards have been won or time is up and the person with the most cards wins. A great introduction to giant pandas! Tell your pupils about International Panda Day this 16th March with this informative resource. Included: - Fully editable PowerPoint with basic facts about giant pandas, information on adopting a panda and fundraising ideas - Is it a PANDA or a CAT PowerPoint game - Four worksheets covering various abilities (complete the fact sheet, counting and colouring activity, word search, crossword) - Panda mask template for pupils to decorate as imaginatively as possible. This can either be attached to a lolly stick and held or fastened with elastic depending on the size of the child's face. A whole class of these would also make a really attractive display.

This quiz contains ten simple general knowledge questions and pupils need to scan the QR codes (I put them up around the room) to find the answers. Each code has a letter assigned to it so even if the pupils know some of the answers already, they still need to find the letter. This quiz can also be used as a starting point for a bit of research using the iPads. For example, question four asks pupils to find the country that is in both Europe and Asia. Once the quiz is over (or as a filler while others are finishing), they could be asked to find five interesting facts about Turkey to share with the rest of the class. This activity is taking more of a creative approach allowing pupils to design their own flag. It comes in three forms: blank flag, English writing and French writing so pupils can work on whichever skill they need. For example, a pupil who loves football could draw himself playing football or a football pattern and underneath write, “Ce drapeau me représente car j’adore le foot. Je le joue avec mes copains…” etc. If you wanted to go all out you could find some old pillowcases, get the fabric paints out and turn these designs into real flags to hang around the school.
